Over the past few weeks, I’ve found it difficult to write in this space. I can’t really explain why—perhaps it’s simply the start of what could be a slow and sorta painful offseason that’s bogged me down, or maybe it’s other stuff, outside the realm of easy explanation. I don’t know. My interest hasn’t been as concentrated as it should be, and when I have sat down to write, I’ve had trouble finding the right topic or the right words. Even this synopsis on the state of the newsletter has taken far too long to type out.
So, I’ve gotta do something. Instead of abruptly shuttering my second attempt at a Padres-focused newsletter, I’m just going to pause the collection of payments. This way, I can still write some this winter without feeling the pressure to write anything at all. And if I get the itch to dive back in on a more regular basis as spring rolls around, I can just turn payments back on and start anew. In the end, I never want to charge money for something that isn’t worth it—especially not in this era, when there’s so much writing out there that is worth paying for (and a bunch more that’s free).
If you’re a monthly subscriber, you won’t be charged again until or unless payments get turned back on. If you’re one of a small handful of yearly subscribers, you’ll receive a partial refund within the next couple weeks. Everyone—non-paid subscribers included—will continue to receive anything I write this offseason, which could range from an article or so a week to, well, less than that.
Either way, thanks for the support. I can’t reiterate how much that’s always meant, even if I haven’t been as reliable as hoped. I’ll see you again whenever my brain allows me to write something of substance.
I second John's comment...
If you feel up to it, I’d love to read your thoughts on the Padres’ sudden flurry of trades/big signings and where they point the team for the rest of the offseason. I wouldn’t mind paying America’s best baseball writer his monthly fee for just two or three articles. Hope to see you back soon and that you had a great Chrismas.
